Del Mar, home to the Fairgrounds, Race Track, and beautiful beaches, is located along 2.5 miles of coastline. The beach is the perfect place to surf, swim, and even take your dogs (Dog Beach allows dogs to run freely during certain times of the year). Del Mar is a quaint town with the highest percentage of college graduates, and is only 2 square miles truly a location where the "Turf Meets the Surf".
Del Mar Plaza has some phenomenal shops and offers amazing sunsets on a regular basis. There is Pacifica Del Mar, Episode's and Il Fornaio Del Mar to feast in and many great stores. The Village of Olde Del Mar is still very quaint and centers up at 15th Street and Camino Del Mar. The L'Auberge Resort Hotel is an excellent place to stay in the heart of downtown and is a short walk to 15th Street beach and Powerhouse Park. Along the ocean front, dine at Jake's or The Poseidon Restaurant who are perennial favourites. At the north end of the Del Mar Beach Colony near Via de la Valle, is The Brigantine Del Mar, overlooking the race track and surf of of "Dog Beach" at the San Dieguito River Channel. Red Tracton's, Pampelmousse Grille and the Fish Market round out the northern restaurant row, while at the southern end of the Village a great sandwich can be found at Board and Brew and there are Bully's North, En Fuego and Sbicca in the main downtown area.
Favourite neighborhoods: Del Mar Beach Colony, Olde Del Mar northern end above and west of Del Mar Plaza, southern coastal Del Mar bluffs overlooking Torrey Pines State Beach and southern side above Camino Del Mar in Hidden Pines area. On the east side of Interstate 5 and north of Via de la Valle are some exceptional rustic neighborhoods within the 92014 zip code that include: Montecillo, Sun Valley and Rancho Del Mar where acre-plus lots are the norm. Flower Hill Mall has its movie theater and the famous Milton's Deli and excellent dining is at Marketplace and Pasquale's Del Mar a bit further east heading into Rancho Santa Fe.
